How we respond to victims of sexual assault has an incredible impact on their healing journey.  Start By Believing challenges our community to change our mindset on sexual abuse and how to support survivors of violence. Join Safe Passage and Prevention Education and Outreach to start by believing.

This training will cover topics such as sexual assault. These may be sensitive topics for some. Please use self-care when attending this training and reach out to Dr. Junelle Bennett at jbennetta6@niu.edu if you have any questions or concerns about attending this event.

Take Back The Night: Collab with Safe Passage

With over a decade of experience, she has dedicated her career to advocating for marginalized communities, focusing on areas such as human rights, domestic violence, sexual assault, sex trafficking, family law, civil rights, and immigration law. During her two-day visit to campus, she will discuss the barriers to disclosing sexual violence

She has over a decade of experience in working with victims/survivors of sexual assault and domestic violence. Join us as we hear from her about the barriers to disclosing sexual violence. She will provide us with an overview of sexual violence, consent and then discuss the barriers to disclosing. Once we all know what the barriers are we can better assist the individuals who are impacted by sexual violence.

Supporting Mental Health in the Classroom with a Trauma-Informed Approach

This interactive session will introduce participants to trauma-informed approaches that can be applied universally so that strength-based teaching and learning can support all students, including those who are neuro-divergent. After the session, numerous strategic resources will be provided for further self-directed learning.
