Come discuss how we can support our peers by identifying change in behavior or challenges in mental health or suicide concerns, how to safely report and receive ongoing student-centered support services. We can be the friend to others that we need for ourselves.

Understanding and Working with Undocumented and International Students
Friday, May 3, 2024 from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM
Undocumented students and international students face particularly unique challenges in class, and being attentive to those challenges is not only supportive for those students but can also create a more equitable and caring class community. In this session, Drs. James Cohen and Sandy Lopez (Director of the Undocumented Student Resource Center) will help participants gain an understanding of the challenges undocumented and immigrant students face both in classrooms and the larger community. Participants will also be provided with specific strategies for engaging this community.

The Faculty Academy for Cultural Competence and Equity (FACCE) workshop series features NIU faculty experts leading interactive, engaging sessions on how to make your classroom, instruction, and pedagogy inclusive and accessible to all current and future Huskies. This summer, you can complete an intensive immersion experience on inclusion by attending these sessions with a committed cohort of your peers.
