Transfer Course Equivalencies and Major Guides

To find your transfer guide, select your college and your intended NIU major from the drop-down menu below. The Course Equivalencies and Major Guides (CEMG) are effective for courses taken fall 2025, spring 2026, and summer 2026. You can follow the NIU catalog from the year you started at your original school —or any later catalog — if you were enrolled during that year. Just make sure the catalog you choose isn’t more than three years old when you transfer or return to NIU. More information about our transfer credit policies can be found in our online catalog.

Note: If searching for a city college, please enter "City Colleges of Chicago" rather than the individual college name.

This guide is not a replacement for meeting with your academic advisor, and you are strongly encouraged to consult with your advising team for personalized course planning. Be sure that your contact information is current with us so we may provide updated information for the semester you're planning to start at NIU.

Below are the course equivalencies for all courses listed in the transfer guide. Keep in mind: just because a course is listed here doesn’t mean you have to take it. Check the full guide to see which courses are required. For example, if the guide says you can take MATH 211 or MATH 229, you’ll see both listed below — but you only need to take one of them.
